Preview art for Roswell, Texas

Big Head Press today released some preview art for their three online graphic novel projects, including L. Neil Smith and Scott Bieser’s Roswell, Texas. Methinks that Wild Bill Bear shows a slight resemblance to a famous libertarian sf novelist…

Wild Bill is supposed to look like a young Ben Johnson, with a “small-beard” (sometimes referred to as a “goatee).

It’s that facial hair, I think, that’s throwing you. Check the blog index page from the main BigHeadPress site to see Neil’s picture from when we won the Prometheus Award.

I stand corrected. It’s been a few years since I last saw Neil in person, but I did assume from both the facial hair and the attitude that Wild Bill was based on him.

I’m very surprised that L.N.S. seems to be sympathetic to the defenders of the Texas revolutionaries—the slaves they held would have more gun rights had Mexico succeeded in freeing them.
